DjangoCon.US 2024 is coming! We’re excited to once again be part of another edition, this time scheduled for September 22-27 and taking place in Durham, North Carolina. The event promises to be an excellent opportunity for networking and community building as always, so we can’t wait to get together and connect with awesome professionals from around the world.

As you may know, collaboration is a key driver here at Vinta, so we are always eager to contribute to the tech community. We often participate in major Django and Python conferences worldwide, like DjangoConEU, Pygotham, and many others.

This year, Vinta is proud to have two of our experts presenting at DjangoCon.US 2024.

Featured Speakers from Vinta

Product 101 for Techies and Tech Teams

On the 23rd, Amanda Savluchinske will explore the intersection of product management and engineering, providing valuable insights for teams looking to enhance their collaboration with product managers.

As someone who’s had a hybrid career as a Product Manager and software engineer, Amanda has an end-to-end view of projects. So she uses her experience to talk about how to bridge the gap between developers and PMs. She will also share essential tips for improving the workflow between PMs and developers, besides strategies on becoming a product-oriented engineer.

This is Amanda’s first time as a speaker at Djangocon.US, but she has spoken at various Python and Django conferences over the years. Nerves aside, Amanda anticipates engaging with the topics and speakers at the event—and she even shared more about her experience in this interview with Tim Schilling, DEFNA secretary and DjangoCon US 2024 communications co-chair.

Django + Celery: A Love Story of Async Proportions

On the 25th Hugo Bessa will present a talk on integrating Django with Celery to manage asynchronous tasks effectively, showcasing best practices and real-world applications.

The talk highlights potential issues with using Celery, including outdated data, duplicate task runs, and conflicting operations. Hugo will provide strategies to mitigate these problems, such as ensuring atomicity and idempotence, implementing soft deletes, and using monitoring tools.

Hugo has developed software for over a decade now, specializing in Python and Django frameworks. He has presented talks at several events dedicated to the tech community, like Django Boston and Boston Python and more.

Talks we’re excited to attend

Maps with Django

Paolo Melchiorre will talk about integrating mapping functionalities into Django applications. He brings GeoDjango, a geographic framework for Django that simplifies geographic data integration and mapping capabilities.

The practical examples and best practices shared during the talk will equip developers with the knowledge needed to implement effective mapping solutions, ultimately improving the functionality and user experience of their projects.

Learn Django security the hard way

Adarsh Divakaran is the co-founder of Digievo Labs and he will present a talk on  PyGoat, a Django application designed to help developers learn about common security vulnerabilities. Attendees will engage in attacking the deployed PyGoat application to identify security issues, allowing them to understand how these vulnerabilities can be exploited.

This talk is ideal for developers who want to learn about practical security measures and how to protect their applications against common threats.

Faster, Leaner, Greener: 10x Lower Website Carbon Emissions

Thibaud Colas is a board member for Django and core contributor to the Wagtail open-source CMS. His talk will bring an analysis of Django websites to understand the overall emissions of the Django ecosystem and identify the specific aspects of a project that contribute to power and resource usage.

He will also highlight common issues and straightforward improvements that can be made to reduce emissions. This talk is crucial if you want to learn practical strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of your projects without compromising performance or functionality.

Not attending? We’ll bring our talks here

If you are unable to attend DjangoCon.US 2024, don't worry - we've got you covered. The talks we present at the conference will be recorded and uploaded to our blog in the weeks following the event. We want Django enthusiasts from around the world to learn from our content,  even if they couldn't make it to Durham.
